Plaid is making a comeback this Fall and Farmer John ain’t hatin’. The classic tartan print has been seen on the catwalks of Alexander Wang, Michael Kors, and 3.1 Phillip Lim (to name a few), but the schoolgirl-inspired pattern graduated from its typical long sleeve button up. This season, plaid made its way down the runway on collared blazers, oversized coats, flared trousers, high-waisted skirts, coordinates and more – the looks were nothing but autumnal sophistication.

My favorite kind of plaid is plaid by Rails. The brand is known for its wide selection of tops in various styles and prints and their product is well made, comfortable, and so soft you could sleep in it. I love the color palette on this top because it can be easily worn with any neutral while still making a statement.

Since the heat in Los Angeles was still going strong, I paired my Rails with mid-rise distressed denim shorts from H&M and thick wide-strapped sandals from Forever 21. To incorporate an extra pop of color, I chose a red Bottega Veneta clutch and vintage turquoise rings to tie the look together.

I call this ensemble the modern day school girl. Wearable enough for the playground, but with an updated twist that puts those dreadful required uniforms to shame. Let me know what you think by commenting below.
